Privacy Policy

Overview
Boardcast ("we", "us", "our") is a live chess broadcasting platform comprising the Boardcast Studio desktop application, the Boardcast relay server, and the Boardcast iOS spectator app. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
The short version: we collect no personal data. The app and website do not require an account, do not use advertising, and do not track you.
Data We Do Not Collect
We do not collect, store, or process:
- Names, email addresses, or any account information
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Location data
- Usage analytics or crash reports
- Cookies or tracking pixels on this website
How the App Works
The Boardcast iOS app connects directly to a relay server (either the public relay at relay.boardcast.studio or a private relay configured by the user). It receives live chess game data — moves, clocks, and engine evaluations — over a WebSocket connection.
This connection is read-only. No data is sent from your device to the relay server beyond the initial subscription request containing the event ID you wish to follow.
If you enable the on-device Stockfish engine, the engine runs entirely on your device. No game positions or analysis results are transmitted anywhere.
Third-Party Services
The Boardcast Studio desktop app is distributed via GitHub Releases. GitHub may collect standard access logs (IP address, user agent) when you download the software. Please refer to GitHub's Privacy Statement for details.
The on-device Stockfish engine is loaded from the jsDelivr CDN on first use. jsDelivr may log standard access data. See jsDelivr's Privacy Policy for details.
Tournament Data
Tournament organisers who use Boardcast Studio broadcast player names and game data to the relay server. This data is only retained in memory for the duration of the broadcast and is not persisted to any database. Organisers are responsible for ensuring they have appropriate consent from participants to broadcast their games.
Children
Boardcast does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. The app does not require registration or any form of data entry.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. As we collect no personal data, changes are unlikely to affect your rights in any meaningful way.
